Bullwinkle

My one and only moose (Utah). Best eating animal in my humble opinion. A bit tough to cape, bone out, and pack out solo though !!

A solo packout, huh. Now I

A solo packout, huh. Now I know you're a hunter; anybody with real sense wouldn't do it. We are a breed unto ourselves. I've heard their meat is real tasty. Maybe I'll get the chance to do that one of these days.

You guys ever eat mountain lion? I dunno about moose but cat was some of the best eating wild game I've ever had...reminded me of chicken fried steak but better. Makes sense...since they eat moose haha

Ellisbowhunter that is a good

Ellisbowhunter that is a good one! Unfortunately I don't know if I will ever get to taste that lion due to the fact that hunting them in Cali is still illegal (even though there are probably more lions now roaming the Golden State than at any time in history).

I hunted hard for this guy, and even though he is no record book monster, I was really happy to get him. Weather was warm, full moon, slow rut, etc.. Was hunting solo and dropped him in a nasty hole. When I walked up to him I thought to myself "I have just killed a horse", they are are absolutely enormous bodywise. I had to use ropes, leverage, logs, all kinds of stuff to get him caped and boned out. But when all was said and done, it was well worth it.

Oh dear lord hunting moose

Oh dear lord hunting moose solo? Doing the elk thing solo is ok but moose? I hope you had some help packing him out at least...Most of the places we pack our elk out of we can get it done in two trips with two guys...I don't even wanna think what it'd take to get a moose out of a hole....do you have any experience with using pack mules?

Nope, had no help. Luckily

Nope, had no help. Luckily the "pack out" wasn't too far. I was able to get everything boned and caped, and packed up in about a half dozen game bags. Made several trips getting up to a road that I had my quad parked on. Took several trips getting the meat hide and horns back to camp on the quad. I swore I would NEVER do that again !!

You know, I always say the

You know, I always say the same thing after packing out an elk, "I'll never do that again!" Of course, I've never had the "privilege" of packing out a moose. I'm quite sure I would not pack out a moose from the terrain that I usually have to pack out my elk. If I did, I'm sure that I would have to take a three-month sabattical immediately afterwards.
