How to hunt in Colorado

I just moved to the Castle Rock area. I would like to hunt elk and/or deer with my son (who lives in Tacoma) and some friends who live in Michigan and Indiana. I have no idea how to secure tags and/or where to hunt. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks!
