Good public land to hunt?

Hi I recently moved to Colorado Springs this summer and just bought an either sex whitetail deer tag for late rifle season. It is for anywhere west of I25 I am wondering if anyone on here could point me in the right direction. I am just wondering where we good places to hunt? Is it mainly hike hunting? I''my from Louisiana where we mainly stand hunt so just wondering what the majority of y'all do here? Thanks

Hey there and welcome. I know

Hey there and welcome. I know that Colorado has lots of whitetails, but don't know anything about hunting them. But, here's what I'd suggest. First, I'd call the Colorado Springs office (719-227-5200) of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife and go get a big game brochure. In the deer section, there's a subsection for whitetail and the applicable units. Second, I'd get the name of the Biologist (game population, health, etc.) and Wildlife Officer (eyes on the ground) and pick their brains. Also, ask them about other units, and contact the same people responsible in those other units. From that information, you could probably develop a decent game plan. Hope this helps.
